⚠️ SAFETY WARNING / ELECTRICAL HAZARD. This appliance operates with High Voltages or residual charges. Physical intervention is very dangerous and it is strongly recommended to entrust it to a qualified specialized technician to avoid electrocution. ReeFix provides this diagnosis EXCLUSIVELY for educational and informational purposes.
CAUSE A: Drain System Obstruction (hoses, filter, tank)
Probability: 50%
This is the most common cause for the F18 error. The accumulation of lint, debris, and limescale prevents condensate water from flowing freely. The dryer detects a water level that is too high or a failure to drain, causing it to stop. This often happens when routine filter maintenance is not consistent.
Key signs: Stagnant water in the condensate tank; the dryer attempts to drain but no water comes out or it comes out very slowly; presence of dirt or lint in the tank or filter.
Quick checks (by technician):
Unplug the appliance from the power.
Inspect the condensate tank and its housing for obstructions.
Check the condensate filter (if separate) and its ducts.
Check any external drain hoses for kinks or blockages.
Estimated costs (if solvable with cleaning): Low (time/materials for cleaning).
Counter-examples: If water is drained regularly but the error persists, the cause is not an obstruction.
CAUSE B: Drain Pump Malfunction
Probability: 30%
The drain pump is an electromechanical component that pushes water out of the system. If it is faulty, does not activate, is mechanically blocked, or has an electrical problem, water is not removed, generating F18. The pump is a model-specific spare part.
Key signs: The pump makes no noise or emits a weak hum without water movement; water is not drained even with clean ducts; an electrical test reveals an open circuit or short circuit in the pump itself.
Quick checks (by technician):
Unplug the appliance from the power.
Access the drain pump (usually at the bottom of the appliance).
Check for mechanical blockages to the pump impeller.
With a Digital Multimeter, test the continuity of the pump motor and the power supply voltage when it should be active (only by a qualified technician).
Safety notes: Replacement requires the use of Torx Screwdrivers and Long-nose pliers and electrical skills.
CAUSE C: Water Level Sensor Failure
Probability: 15%
The level sensor communicates to the control board whether the condensate tank is full or empty. If the sensor is faulty, it sends incorrect readings, causing the F18 error even if water is drained correctly or there is no obstruction. It is a false positive for drainage.
Key signs: The dryer reports "tank full" even when it is empty (or vice versa), without any obstructions or obvious pump problems. The error appears immediately or shortly after startup.
Common errors: Confusing a dirty sensor with a faulty sensor; cleaning can resolve it.
WHICH IS YOURS?
To decide in 60 seconds:
Check the tank: If it's full or water struggles to drain despite clean filters, CAUSE A is the most probable.
Listen to the pump: If you hear no draining noises or a hum without water movement, CAUSE B is probable.
If A and B are OK: If water is drained but the F18 error persists, then CAUSE C (sensor) or, less likely (5%), the electronic board should be investigated.
Operational decision:
If the tank is full and filters are dirty -> clean thoroughly; otherwise, if the pump doesn't act or the error persists after cleaning -> contact a technician to test the pump and sensor.
Prevention tips:
Clean the condensate filter after each cycle. Clean the condensate tank and accessible ducts every 3-6 months.
