Is your Ubiquiti UDM reporting network loops and blocking STP packets? Here are the most common causes and their solutions:

• 1. Bridging Conflict from Multimedia Devices (45% probability)

  • Problem: Devices like SonosNet with multiple wired units create a bridging conflict when their proprietary mesh network intersects with your wired LAN.
  • Solution: Try temporarily disconnecting all Sonos devices except one, or disable their internal Wi-Fi if they are wired.

• 2. Incorrect RSTP Priority Hierarchy (30% probability)

  • Problem: If all your UniFi switches have the default priority (32768), Root Bridge election is random, causing instability and loops. The UDM's integrated switch does not support direct STP/RSTP priority configuration.
  • Solution: Access the UniFi controller and correctly set RSTP priorities on your network switches. For example, set the main/core switch directly connected to the UDM to 4096 and secondary switches to 8192 or higher values.

• 3. Logical Loop from UniFi APs with Active Meshing (15% probability)

  • Problem: A wired AP also maintains a wireless uplink, creating a logical loop.
  • Solution: Disable the "Enable Meshing" option on wired APs from the UniFi controller.
